- I have had a number of people ask about tower kits for the 1200. Micronik
- (Germany) has a kit that has had a reputation for incompatibility with
- accelerator cards and some Zorro II cards. A nearby dealer had ordered
- half a dozen kits, but felt he could not sell them. Micronik had told
- both of us that the kit (with the newly revised 4.02 daughtercard, shipped
- in early February) would work with the latest DKB accelerators, but we
- found this was not the case. Some ZII cards worked, but many didn't.
-
- In further talks with them, Micronik stated that the kit and the Blizzard
- 1230-IV Turbo card are 100% compatible for Zorro II cards. It took me
- awhile to get hold of a 1230, but I was finally able to run tests yester-
- day. With 1230 and a 4 MB SIMM installed in the the tower/1200 set,
- all Zorro II cards we tested appeared to configure properly and be
- working. These cards included:
-
- CBM 2091 with memory and HD
- Oktagon 2008 with memory and HD
- ICD AdSCSI 2000
- GVP Series 1
- Supra 8 MB ram board
- CBM 2058 ram board
- Micron/ASDG ram board
- Picasso II
- 4066 Ethernet card
- Tocatta card
- V-Lab Y/C card
- V-Lab Motion card
-
- We installed up to five cards at a time, so I think we would have seen
- problems if there were any, since these cards range from the oldest to the
- newest.
-
- Conclusion: the Micronik 1200 kit will work well, is nicely made, and looks
- good. Just plan on using the Phase 5 Blizzard 1230-IV Turbo card, if
- any. The tower gives you five Z II slots and four PC-AT slots. It comes
- with a CBM keyboard case and cable kit which accepts your 1200 keyboard.
-
- This is not a commercial, just a response to many questions.
